Terminal Lance “Black Friday”

0

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Doing any Black Friday shopping this year? Black Friday has special meaning for Marines. You see, usually recruits get to the Recruit Depot (MCRD) during the beginning or middle of the week. You stay in a kind of limbo-holding state while they process you until Friday. Friday is the day that you meet your Drill Instructors for the first time, they call this day “Black Friday.” It’s not about low, low prices on your favorite electronics at Best Buy; it’s about a big, muscular, sweaty guy screaming at you at the top of his lungs without about three or four of his friends.

Most things about boot camp are pretty awful. It’s such a disorienting feeling, that first week. You’re sure that you made some kind of awful mistake, you regret every paper your recruiter convinced you to sign. Contrast is key, though. Once you get used to someone yelling at you for nothing–all day, every day–it stops becoming as intimidating.

In other news, Thanksgiving is coming up this week. There probably will not be a new strip on Friday, depending on if I feel like working on Thanksgiving (spoiler alert: probably not). In more… other… news, if any of you reading this are animators or animation students, I’m working on a project and could potentially use your help. Shoot me an email at maximilian.uriarte@terminallance.com and I’ll fill you in.

Happy Thanksgiving, go eat something that’s not an MRE.
