With a Purpose

2

The clipboard is a ubiquitous commodity amongst the Staff NCO ilk for its ability to imbue one with the aura of looking really busy. See a Marine with a clipboard? They must be doing something pretty important. Something that requires… A clipboard… maybe it’s a list or inventory or something. I don’t know.

Better leave them alone. Wouldn’t want to get in their way.

You’d be surprised at how far you can get with a few life hacks like this and a fresh haircut. Like the camouflage on your back, hiding in plain sight can often be the best strategy to get by.

In other news, TL has been going through some shifts and changes and I think we’re on the cusp of some fresh changes around here. In the meantime, take a look at the new Terminal Lance store and stock up on official TL merch. We just dropped a new Graphic Novel collection of tees this week with designs from The White Donkey and Battle Born: Lapis Lazuli.

  1. In the AF it is a blue folder…people would clear hallways if I had an empty one in my hand.

  2. As a PFC at Mainside Camp Pen, We had a Cpl who was always trying to look good….He wanted to become a Warrant…anyways, we had a compound at H&S Bn Comm’s (The old wooden buildings) and someone (Cpl. Whizzbang) came up with the bright Idea to repaint Shelters, Trucks, Jeeps, Fuel tanks for “MOGAS” and the Gunny’s office door. He instructed me to find out the total number of items, measure them and come up with a formulation as to the square footage to give to whomever to get the paints to get the job done. Evidently, CARC paint is extremly inexpensive, at least in 1984 it was. I got my little clipboard, 20 foot measuring tape and several black pens…they gave me a site map to draw where everything was…a detail investigation so granular, even a Pvt. or a 2nd Lt. could figure it out…I’m pretty sure it took me all of 2 hours to figure it out and come out with a plan…I went back and everybody was engaged in whatever. I figured, “What the hell”…it took me a good two weeks to get that paperwork to Cpl.Whizzbang…absolute brilliance. Spent a lot of time at the Club at mainside…beer was $1 a glass.
