Terminal Lance #239 “Keeping Cadence”

0

Cadence is one of those things that can be a lot of fun, but usually isn’t. If you happen to catch everyone on an extra-motivated morning, calling cadence during a platoon run can actually be pretty fun. Some funny lyrics are brought forth, people have some laughs, everyone has a good time and you call it a morning.

This doesn’t usually happen though, and most of the time the platoon is hungover and/or just pissed off or disgruntled and don’t feel like singing. It’s bad enough to have to wake up at 0500 in the morning to stand around in short-shorts and run for an hour, no one feels like singing in the morning when you still have dried vomit from last night’s binge stuck between your leg hairs.

Calling cadence is just one of those lame moto things that no one really wants to do, but sometimes your new 2nd Lieutenant makes you and Staff Sergeant sucks it up to make him happy. I remember on one of our battalion runs, the entire battalion was running and calling some motivated cadence through the streets of beautiful MCBH Kaneohe Bay. Well, every platoon except for one: my own. Apparently Staff Sergeant felt the same way most of us Lance Corporals did, and didn’t really feel like pretending to give a shit at 0600 in the morning. Only when the Lt pushed it did he even bother trying, which usually didn’t last more than a couple of verses.

In other news, sorry about the late late update. Finals week, bro. This is the last week of the semester, I’ve got one more paper to write and I’m good for the winter break. Look forward to some sale stuff coming down the pipe. In the meantime, did you know you can get Terminal Lance “KNIFE-HANDS!!!” for only $14.95 right now? YOU DIDN’T? Well then you should click here and buy it, it will make a great Christmas present, I swear!
