Terminal Lance “DOMA”

I’m going to just put this out there:

Terminal Lance has never been anti-gay. If you think that, you’re a fucking idiot.

Now that that’s out of the way, I’m sure everyone knows about the repeal of DOMA (The Defense of Marriage Act) and are aware that same-sex couples will soon be able to get the same benefits as heterosexual couples, from what I understand. Naturally, Duffelblog was on this pretty quick and did this story up, implying that everyone will just marry each other for the benefits.

I thought it was hilarious, and it’s a joke anyway.

But here’s the thing, if you’re seriously one of those people that is worried about contract marriages to take advantage of benefits, I should remind you that this has already been going on with heterosexual couples forever. I personally knew multiple Marines that got married to a woman just for the benefits, it was loveless and self-serving. This isn’t a problem with gay-marriage, it’s a problem with the marriage system in the military. It encourages people to get married because the quality of life is so much greater. You get a housing allowance, which can be substantial, and you get to move out of the barracks–which means you can get a dog or do all of the other things that normal people do every day.

I’m not saying it’s broken, but the marriage system itself in the military is the reason for contract marriages, and nothing else.

Also, a note on censorship:

I don’t believe in censorship. In fact, I debated putting this strip up because I was worried it might offend some people. As an artist, this is something I have to deal with. A true artist is someone that will put their work out there regardless of who it offends, because it’s worth putting out. I thought this joke was funny enough to be told, so I put it out there.
