One must be particularly motivated to stay in long enough to reach the rank of First Sergeant. As such, it can be expected that you may develop some… unnatural tastes.

First Sergeants have always been a point of fun for me as a guy that draws comics about Marines. For whatever reason, the First Sergeant, more than anyone, is the quintessential Staff NCO of the Marine Corps.

Staff Sergeant is too low on the totem pole and mostly just raging at his lower enlisted platoon. Gunny is too lovable, somewhere in the middle where no one expects anything of him but he always delivers. First Sergeant is where you’re large and in charge, unassailable from most angles and fully ingrained in the foundations of the Corps itself. To be a First Sergeant is to be one with the Corps. You are the Marine Corps.
