Terminal Lance #299 “The Eye of Sauron II”

Always watching…

If it wasn’t entirely apparent by now, I am a gigantic nerd. It might explain why I chose to go 0351 when I was at SOI, it seemed to be where the rest of my kind culminated in the infantry. This, of course, brings us to where we are today: from a Star Wars parody to a Lord of the Rings reference. If the whole Eye of Sauron is lost on you, I invite you to 2001 to come watch Lord of the Rings with me. I was 15, 150 lbs and had never seen a vagina in person.

More to the point, I remember always being told in boot camp:

Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.

It’s actually not bad advice for your everyday life, but it always felt more like an underhanded warning coming from the institution itself. Drill Instructors from the very beginning instill the fear of the Marine Corps into you; ‘We see everything,’ they tell you–and they’re entirely correct. It’s the fear of the great Eye that keeps you from wearing uniform items while on leave, or putting on a hat indoors months after you’ve separated from the service.

The Great Eye of Sauron sees all.

It’s always watching.

On a side note, as you can see, shit is clearly getting fancy around here. Okay not really, but hey I have to put that BFA in Animation (with Distinction) to use somehow right?
