As someone who is married, and was married while actively in an infantry line platoon, I can recall this situation happening quite vividly on a regular basis. Not just me, but to just about everyone wearing a wedding-band at some point or another. The life of a married Marine is one of perceived luxury, and in many ways it is, but at the same time it surely alienates them from the dark, soulless heart of the Lance Corporal Underground: the barracks.
In the infantry word changes, and it changes a lot. It happens like a brush fire in the barracks; one minute you’re sitting in your standard-issue chair playing Call of Duty, the next minute some other Lance Corporal is peeking his head into your room and saying to you, “Hey, cammies tomorrow instead of PT gear”. Without so much as a glance you’ll acknowledge it, get your cammies ready for the morning and be set to go. In this age of modern technical wizardry, it’s astonishing that it is still possible for “the word” to not get to those outside the epicenter of Marinedom, yet it happens daily. I suppose in a platoon so large, with word so readily available in the barracks, it just happens that you forget about the guy who lives on the other side of base with his wife and dog. It could be, of course, a treacherous form of betrayal specifically to spite those luxuries–but he would be none the wiser.
In personal news, I kind of feel like I’m not quite back “in the groove” after the whole Necropocalypse thing. Then again, its very possible that being a year out of the Marine Corps is dragging my memory down a bit. I’ve begun focussing more and more on the graphic novel, as well as some other things that will be announced pretty soon.
There’s some big things down the road for Terminal Lance–expect to hear about it within the next 2 weeks. I’m going to be adding some aesthetic changes to the site as well, hopefully all of this goes smoothly–there’s no reason it won’t, I just like saying that to make you worry. Some of you may have noticed the new header logo. I cleaned it up substantially from the previous one, it’s now a little more “professional” and presentable.

The White Donkey
This is just a teaser image for the graphic novel.
To clear some things up: The Graphic Novel is nowhere near finished. No one has sex with The White Donkey. It doesn’t take place in Mexico, there are donkeys in Iraq (hint, hint). Abe and Garcia are the central characters of the story.
I’m not going to say any more than that! You’ll just have to wait for… whenever I decide to tell you more. In the meantime, look forward to some new exciting things for the website as well as some big announcements regarding other things within the next couple of weeks.
