Would you look at that… Not a cell phone in sight… Just Marines living in the moment. Who doesn’t appreciate the fresh crisp air of the outdoors?

This is the first of a new approach to animated TL content! For years I had dabbled with the idea of doing stuff like this, but I think the advent of some new tools has made it much more approachable and ideal for digestible short social media content.

This animation was done 100% on iPad with an app called Procreate Dreams. Dreams is a pretty new animation app from the creators of Procreate, and while it’s (frustratingly) missing some features that will surely be added in future updates, I’ve become a huge believer in the potential for creating animation with it.

What I really love about this app is how natural everything feels to use. It’s very snappy and fast, and drawing feels just as natural as it does in Procreate. Of course animation is a little bit more involved than doing a comic, but the process isn’t too different.

From a comedic perspective, the added benefit of doing video over comics is time.

This seems obvious, but when you control the flow of how information gets to the viewer, you control the pacing and delivery of your joke (or whatever) much better. There’s tricks in comics to guide the reader’s eye where you want it, but here I can just do it how it’s meant to be.

I did provide the voice-acting for this as well.

Working on my animation MFA at UCLA has really reinvigorated my passion for animation (naturally), and you can expect to see a lot more of it in the (near) future. Currently, I’m working on a brand new “POST” short for Post Animation…
