Terminal Lance #296 “The Surprise Officer”

0

If there’s one thing I always hated about the regular garrison life of being a Marine, it was always the constant state of alert and fear of an officer or Staff NCO coming around the corner at any given moment. Much like The Stare, The Surprise Officer is a common occurrence that you must always be on the lookout for. He will strike at any moment, and frankly I think he kind of enjoys it. There’s a sort of sick glee that these people take in receiving greetings and salutes.

I always found it really odd that greetings are an actual regulation. It stopped me from wanting to go to the PX or Commissary on base in my cammies just because I didn’t want to have to deal with greetings. It’s easier to hide your rank in civilian attire. Then again, Lance Corporals and lower enlisted are usually pretty easy to spot anyway.

In other news, you may have noticed there were no new comics last week. I was out of town in Los Angeles and Dallas all last week working on the upcoming Fox TV series “Enlisted,” as well as making a guest appearance at the EBV National Convention in Dallas. A very busy week for me, lots of traveling and very little sleep. I was trying to arrange a guest comic strip while I was gone, but it fell through unfortunately. In any case, I am back, and I’m hoping things can get back to normal around here.

You may have noticed the new site! In addition to being mobile-friendly, the new site is simple and easy on the eyes. The main goal was to get rid of the unused space and keep things as simple as possible. I removed the Downloads page only because I was really awful about updating it, and it seemed kind of moot at this point. There’s also a random button! Yes, you can now waste your hours clicking through random TL strips all day.

I do this because I love you.

I’ve been meaning to write about my time at Fox and the show, which received a pretty unwelcome reaction when I first showed the trailer on the FB page. My impressions of the show, at this point, are much better than they first were. I’ll be writing about it soon when I’ve been able to gather my thoughts on it. In the meantime, enjoy the new site and take a look around.
